Arnbjerg Park and Varde Miniature City

Nestled in the heart of Varde, Arnbjerg Park provides a picturesque setting for "Varde Miniature City," the world's oldest handcrafted miniature city.

Varde Miniature City features over 300 buildings, meticulously scaled at 1:10 to represent Varde as it appeared around 1866. Each structure is a precise replica of its historical counterpart, offering visitors a detailed glimpse into the city's past.

While Varde itself is much older, the city experienced significant losses due to the use of open flames in the early 1800s. Although the street layout has remained consistent since medieval times, many of the buildings are of more recent origin.

"Minimurerne" and the Craftsmanship of Varde Miniature City

The buildings in Varde Miniature City are crafted by the so-called "Minimurerne" – a dedicated group of twelve retired artisans. These skilled and passionate craftsmen gather year-round to construct the miniature houses with millimeter-precise accuracy. Each detail, from self-made roofs and tiles to downpipes, windows, and timber-framed walls, is meticulously recreated.

This impressive display of craftsmanship not only showcases exceptional skill but also preserves the rich architectural and cultural history of Varde. The meticulous work of the Minimurers attracts numerous visitors each season, offering a unique and detailed glimpse into the past.
