The Oksbøl Tank Museum boasts Denmark's largest collection of armored vehicles that have served in Danish military service. The museum offers visitors an extensive range of tanks and armored vehicles to explore. In addition to the impressive array of armored vehicles, the museum also features a selection of handguns, although these are only exhibited during special one-day events.

Background of Oksbøl Tank Museum

In 1969, the original collection of armored vehicles was displayed at the old Oksbøl Nordlejr, leading to the establishment of the Hærens Kampskole Køretøjshistoriske Forening. By 1982, the collection was moved to Sydlejren in Oksbøl, near the newly constructed Army Combat School. Efforts were made to maintain the area and keep the vehicles presentable. However, over the years, it became increasingly challenging to maintain the exhibition and the vehicles due to weather conditions.

Attempts were then made to establish a military museum in the area. Unfortunately, these efforts were unsuccessful due to the lack of available land for the project. By 2008, the situation had become critical. Without a solution to provide cover for the vehicles, there was a real risk that they would deteriorate and be lost for future generations.

 

Exhibition Area Taken Over in 2008

Negotiations for covering the vehicles bore fruit in the fall of 2008, leading to the acquisition of a 900 m² exhibition area. All available resources were dedicated to establishing the new museum, and it wasn’t until the end of 2010 that there was enough surplus to found the Hærens Kampskoles Køretøjshistoriske Forening, which now manages the collection.

Merger with the Artillery Museum

In 2020, the Artillery Museum needed a new location, and at the same time, the closure of the Oksbøl Fire Engine Museum was announced. This created a perfect opportunity for the Panser Museum and the Artillery Museum to be housed together in the same building complex. The combined exhibitions are now known as the Panser- & Artillerimuseet.
