Abelines Gaard – A Charming Glimpse into West Jutland’s Past

When you step into Abelines Gaard, you enter a time capsule. The experience takes you back to life by the North Sea in the early 20th century. Take your time to explore the farm’s many rooms, including its numerous alcoves and parlors. Nearby, you’ll also find an old lifesaving station where you can delve into the history of West Jutland’s maritime rescue services.

Family-Friendly Experiences at Abelines Gaard

At Abelines Gaard, life slows down, offering ample time for family togetherness. You can explore the historic farm together, take pleasant walks in the surrounding area, visit the old lifesaving station, and even engage in some of the traditional games that children once played here. During July and August, you can also participate in a lifeboat drill every Wednesday.

Between Sea and Fjord

Abelines Gaard is nestled between the North Sea and Ringkøbing Fjord, and water has always played a significant role in its history. The farm's owner once earned income from fishing and hunting, and later became a beach warden, responsible for the stretch of coast belonging to the farm. However, by the early 1900s, there was no longer a master of the house; Abeline had become a widow and had to manage the farm and raise her five children alone. Abelines Gaard is not only a tale of one of the best-preserved dune farms on the West Coast but also the story of a strong West Jutland woman.
